Scanning Barcodes and QR Codes
Assetbots supports scanning traditional (1-D) barcodes as well as QR codes using our built-in scanner. Our scanner is available on any device with a camera, including smartphones, tablets, and even laptops and desktops with webcams.
Our built-in scanner can scan the following types of barcodes and QR codes, known as sybolologies:
- Codabar
- Code 128
- Code 39
- Data Matrix
- EAN-13
- EAN-8
- Interleaved 2 of 5 (ITF)
- Micro QR
- MSI Plessey
- QR
- UPC-A
- UPC-E
Scanning can be used to accomplish the following tasks:
Looking up an asset. This is referred to as scan to search and can be initiated by clicking the Scan button in the top bar from any screen.
- Creating bulk assets by tag. Add many similar assets at once by scanning their asset tags. Learn more about adding assets here.
- Adding assets to a check-in or checkout. Tap the Scan button in the Checkout Assets dialog or the Check In Assets dialog to open the scanner. Any item you scan will be added to your pending check-in or checkout. Learn more about checkouts here.
- Adding assets to a reservation. Tap the Scan button in the Reserve Assets dialog to open the scanner. Any item you scan will be added to your pending reservation.
- Adding assets to a repair. Tap the Scan button in the Repair Assets dialog to open the scanner. Any item you scan will be added to your pending repair.
Choosing a borrower from a kiosk. Tap the Scan button in the Checkout To section to open the scanner. Any value added to your Person records can be scanned (e.g., an employee or badge ID) to select a borrower.
- Choosing assets from a kiosk. Tap the Scan button in the Assets section to open the scanner. Any item you scan will be added to your pending check-in or checkout.
Adding or editing an asset’s tag ID. Tap the Scan button at the end of the Tag input field to pen the scanner. Scanning will update the field with the value that was scanned.
Using an External Scanner
Assetbots supports external USB, Bluetooth and NFC scanners as well as our built-in camera scanner. An external scanner can be used to accomplish the following tasks:
- Looking up an asset. You can scan to search from any screen simply by scanning with your external scanner connected and the Assetbots tab in focus. You do not need to have a text field focused for scanning to work.
- Creating bulk assets by tag. Instead of opening the camera scanner as mentioned above, place your cursor into the Tags input field and begin scanning.
- Adding assets to a check-in or checkout. While the Choose Assets step of the Checkout Assets or Check In Assets dialog is open you can scan from your external scanner. Each successful scan will blink a green success indicator and increment the asset count by one.
- Adding assets to a reservation. While the Choose Assets step of the Reserve Assets dialog is open you can scan from your external scanner. Each successful scan will blink a green success indicator and increment the asset count by one.
- Adding assets to a repair. While the Choose Assets step of the Repair Assets dialog is open you can scan from your external scanner. Each successful scan will blink a green success indicator and increment the asset count by one.
- Choosing a borrower from a kiosk. Scan any value added to your Person records from your external scanner while the Checkout screen is open. A successful scan will select the current borrower.
- Choosing assets from a kiosk. Scan any asset tag from your external scanner while the Check In or Checkout screens are open. Each successful scan will add the asset to your pending check-in or checkout.
